Relay contact protection scheme

We know that the contact protection of relays is actually more cruel than that of Mosfet , and the load of general relays is much larger than that of Mosfet .
Common DC heavy load DC motors, DC clutches and DC solenoid valves, these inductive load switches are closed, and the surge caused by the back electromotive force of hundreds or even thousands of volts will reduce the life of the contacts or even completely damage them.
Of course, if the current is small, such as around 1A , the back electromotive force will cause arc discharge, and the discharge will cause metal oxides to contaminate the contacts, resulting in contact failure and increased contact resistance.
It should be mentioned here that the relay will always fail. We do protection mainly to extend the service life of the relay, because the contact will always accumulate carbon and age, and its surface is not as clean as it was originally. When the relay life is approaching the later stage, its contact resistance will increase rapidly.
