20.6 RS232 Interface Split Surge and ESD Protection Solution
Advantages of the solution: This solution adopts two-level protection: the first level uses a Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) for surge protection, while the second level uses an ESD diode to protect against electrostatic discharge, utilizing discrete components. The ESD protection conforms to the IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) standard with ±30kV (air) and ±30kV (contact). The surge protection level is 8/20µs, 5kA.
