Information of MOSFET                                         

Metal - oxide semiconductor field effect transistor, or MOSFET. It is a kind of field effect transistor which can be widely used in analog circuit and digital circuit. MOSFET according to its "channel" (working carrier) polarity is different, can be divided into "N type" and "P type", usually known as N-MOSFET and P-MOSFET, MOSFET is widely used in circuit electronic switching.

The selection tips of MOSFET                                        

1. Choose N channel or P channel. In the low-voltage side switch, N-channel MOSFET should be used, which is due to the consideration of the voltage required to turn off or switch on the device. When the MOSFET is connected to the bus and the load is grounded, a high-voltage side switch is used. Usually for the sake of voltage drive

2. The higher the rated voltage, the higher the cost of the device. The VDS must cover the rated operating voltage range of the circuit and pay attention to the temperature curve

3. Determine the rated current, which shall be the maximum current that the load can withstand under all conditions

4. After selecting the rated current, the on-off loss must be calculated. The MOSFET acts as a variable resistance when "ON", as determined by the RDS(ON) of the device, and varies significantly with temperature. The device power consumption can be calculated by the Iload2×RDS(ON) and will vary proportionally accordingly. The higher the voltage VGS applied to the MOSFET, the smaller the RDS(ON) will be; RDS(ON), on the other hand, is a tradeoff. For the portable design, the use of a higher design, can use a higher voltage. Note that the RDS(ON) resistance rises slightly with the current

5. Determine the switching performance, which is gate/drain, gate/source and drain source capacitance. These capacitors create switching losses in the device because they are low at each switch and the device efficiency decreases. To calculate the total loss of the device during the switching process, the designer must calculate the loss during the opening (Eon) and the loss during the closing (Eoff).
